Natural births

I read this article this morning on called One Mom Chooses an Unmedicated Birth. I'd heard about the Bradley method, and even talked to another pregnant friend last night about studying about it together. But this is the first time I've heard it described and contrasted with the Lamaze method. I like the sound of the Bradley method.

The article also tells about this woman's experience going through labor and birth using the Bradley method. I like how she admits it wasn't easy, and it wasn't exactly how she expected. But it worked out for her and she wants to try it again.

I am starting birthing class soon that is taught by Hollie Hauptley. I'm pretty excited about it! I think it will be a great experience.

  1. Good for you, Alisa! So good to have a plan in mind, but also remember to be willing to be flexible based on the true needs of the baby. I was deadset against any kind of "help" when I was pregnant with our first baby, too...but I was ten days past my due date and ended up with some kind of stomach flu. I needed to have an IV to get fluids and pitocin to get my labor started, as they were worried about how the baby was doing. But the relaxation and breathing techniques meant I could still go through labor without any other medications.

I ended up needing pitocin to "jump start" three of my four pregnancies, but was drug-free other than that, and for that I'm grateful!

I'm impressed with how you are preparing and know you'll be a great mom!

P.S. Thanks for the recipes you've been posting, too...have some on my "to try" list! :)

  2. Thanks for your advice, Lynn! Yes, I'll remember to be flexible. And thanks for your encouragement! It's good to know that my blog is somewhat beneficial. :)

  3. I say go for it if you can, but really enjoying the birth of your child is a wonderful thing. I loved feeling 'refreshed' (not exactly labor was still hard, but not exhausted). I had plenty of time for my body to ache, and the baby to keep my up and night that I am glad I got some sleep before bed. But if you can do it go for it. I hope it all works out great!!
